REQUEST A DEMOIt's Never Too Late to Learn to Read
It's never too late to learn to read! Reading Horizons empowers instructors with the tools and training to help adult learners find reading success at any age. The program is designed to protect the autonomy of adult learners and respect their maturity level. Upon completing the Reading Horizons program (40–60 hours of instruction), most students make 2–3 grade-level gains in reading.
The Reading Horizons Elevate® program leads to efficient reading gains for adult learners in the following ways:
Align Instruction with Reading Science
Reading Horizons teacher training and instructional tools are aligned with the principles of reading science, the Structured Literacy approach, and the Orton-Gillingham approach. During training, teachers learn how to translate the science into practical and engaging strategies that help adult learners find reading success.
Support Adult Learners with a Variety of Needs
After being trained in the Reading Horizons method, teachers are prepared to explain each of the rules and patterns of the English language to struggling readers and English Language Learners (ELLs). These rules and patterns dramatically decrease reading, spelling, and pronunciation errors and give adult learners a formula for attacking unfamiliar words.
Provide Flexible Solutions
Because Reading Horizons provides online (and offline) software and other technology tools, teachers and students can enjoy the program in a flexible format. Teachers can complete virtual training at their own pace and schedule. Adult learners can log in to the software anytime they have internet access—allowing them to expedite or slow down their learning to best meet their goals and schedule.
Present Low-Level Literacy Instruction in a Format That Appeals to Adult Learners
It can be difficult to find low-level reading material and instructional activities for adult learners that don't feel babyish or off-putting. All of our materials were designed with this in mind. Our software program uses a modern user interface that appeals to mature learners and a large library of non-fiction passages that range in difficulty level (grades 1–12) and cover a variety of genres and topics.
Prepare Instructors to Apply Reading Science to Literacy Instruction
Reading Horizons training prepares instructors to explain the fundamentals of the English language to adult learners that struggle with reading or are new to the English language. The training can be held in-person or with a variety of virtual options.
