When I was doing my student teaching for special education, I had the opportunity to learn how to use Reading Horizons. I worked with a kindergarten special-education student for 30 minutes per day for only 6 weeks. He was so excited when he could read and write sentences using short vowel words. One day, his mother stopped by our classroom while I was working with him at the board. After watching how excited he was while he was reading and writing, she started to cry. After he went back to class, she told us she had five children, and none of them had learned to read like that.
