Reading Horizons Review: Nancy Johnson

Daniel has faithfully committed his time to work toward his goal of reading fluency. Daniel stated, “I believed that I could learn. I just needed someone with patience to guide me along the way.” Daniel began his literacy program by first learning basic computer skills to enable him to work on the online phonics program, Reading Horizons. The program Reading Horizons Elevate is an interactive software and direct instruction reading program that successfully teaches K-12, adult and ESL students to recognize and read words rapidly and automatically. The program uses online instruction to quickly produce positive results in vocabulary, spelling, fluency and reading comprehension. Daniel remarked that he likes the speed of the program and the way they divide the words to learn pronunciation. He also said the program goes one step at a time to help you, and it also teaches the meanings of all the words that you are learning to pronounce.

Daniel knew that it was time to do something to improve his reading skills. He had many reasons to pursue this challenge: he felt like he didn’t fit in, he couldn’t fill out a job application, he had trouble reading signs on the highway, he couldn’t help his children with their school work and he had a difficult time reading his Bible. He asked his family to find a program to help him work on his reading. His wife began searching for a program and found Fayette Literacy through an internet search.

Daniel is a wonderful example of how determination and hard work help you to achieve your goals. Daniel commented, “There are special people that can help. A lot of people have a high school diploma, but still don’t know how to read. I’ve learned that your life is not complete until you know how to read. Whatever you go out and do, the Lord will prosper you”.
