Reading Horizons Review: Mary Ann Glasgow

The staff at the Adult Basic and Literacy (A.B.L.E.) program at the Medina County Career Center has used the Reading Horizons program for two years. We have been very pleased with the program and the results that we have been able to achieve.

Our literacy program for adults reading at levels below the 6th grade (as measured by ABLE or TABE testing), uses a combination of whole-group instruction by certified teachers, small-group instruction with trained tutors and computer-assisted instruction using the Reading Horizons program. The combination of these delivery methods has given us great results! Our average reader has progressed 6.4 grade levels after 9 months of instruction.

We also find that our students leave us with an improved self-esteem and sense of worth. We feel that the student’s experience on the computer with the Reading Horizons program contributes to this personal growth.

This year, we have expanded our program and now have the Reading Horizons program, complete with computers available at all of our satellite locations throughout the county. We are positive that the addition of the program as well as computers will prove an indispensable asset to our students.
