"Wow! Your class has really made a lot of progress. What have you been doing?" This was a comment a district reading specialist stated to one of my Sp Ed teachers as I served as a District Special Education Instructional Coach in a local school district. This teacher was using Reading Horizons direct instruction and supplementing it with the software during her daily reading instruction to a class of Special Education students in grades two to six. The growth was determined by the students showing significant progress when monitored by the Dibels assessment. This is only one classroom example that demonstrates that through the use of this blended learning program, students struggling with reading were able to make progress. For the first time in their lives, the method to figure out how to read a word made sense to them. They did not have to guess what the correct pronunciation was! The program works!
