At the Bozeman Adult Learning Center there is 36 year old man from Haiti who married an American woman and immigrated to the U.S. last year. He came to our program in April as an ESOL student with intermediate oral English skills but beginning second grade level skills in reading, language, and spelling. He wanted to improve his literacy skills so that he could gain employment and contribute to the family income. He has been a dedicated student on the Reading Horizons software and recently post tested at a 4.5 grade level. His reading, spelling, and language skills have have increase 2.5 years since April. We were closed part of the summer, so he actually made a 2.5 year gain on his TABE in four months! We are so proud of him, and he is very motivated to move forward as he sees the progress he has made from his focused work on Reading Horizons! It is a fantastic program that thoroughly prepares students with the literacy tools they need to move forward into academic content instruction!
***The reading curriculum, used by the individual in the review above, teaches structured literacy which has been proven to be one of the best ways to learn reading.***
